Determine starting turn order by your favourite means
Each player receives:
- 1 player board with the 2016 Special Vintage Edition side up
- 8 barrels
- 9 discs
- 1 action marker
- Money (bagos):
On your player board:
- Place a region marker on the first slot of each estate
- 2 barrels
Place one disc on each of the following on the game board:
- The player order track for first year turn order
- The 0 space of the Fair Score track
- The Fair logo beteen the Fair booths
- The 0 space of the Score track
- 2 barrels next to each magnate (i.e. a total of 6 in this area)
Place your action marker in the central square of the quadrel
Select your initial vineyard:
- In turn order:
- Choose a region
- Take 1 region renown cube from common supply and place it on empty cube space in that region
- Take topmost vineyard tile from deck in chosen region for free
- Take disc from first slot of estate on player board and place it on the region slot on the map
- Place the chosen vineyard tile on the estate slot you just took the disc from, region side up
- Take a wine tile of value 2 and place it on your player board in the leftmost slot of the warehouse in the estate you just placed the vineyard tile in, with the red or white wine side face up
Take your initial magnate action tile:
- In reverse turn order, each player takes one magnate action tile from the magnates area
- Place it face-up beside your player board
- After everyone has taken a tile:
- Refill the display
- Place the rest of the action deck on the multiplier deck so that there is only one magnate tile deck
The game plays for 6 rounds, where each round represents a calendar year
Each year contains the following phases:
- Start of Year Phase (all years except year 1)
- Actions Phase
- Maintenance Phase
- Production Phase
- Wine Tasting Fair (years 3, 5 and 6)
There is no hidden information - everything you have in front of you must be visible to all players
Note: This phase is skipped in the 1st year
- Discard the Vintage tile used in the previous year
- Reveal a new Vintage tile
- Before the start of the 4th and 6th years:
- Players flip all of their face-down Wine Expert tiles and Magnate Action tiles face-up again
Each player will choose 2 actions to do from the 9 available actions
For the first half of this phase:
- Place the Year/Taxation marker on space 1 of the current year
- Then play proceeds in the order shown in the player order area
- On your turn, you must move your action marker to another space in the quadrel and take the action related to that space
Your movement this turn must follow the following rules:
- If you do not want to (or cannot) take any actions, you must move to the Pass/Press Release space and pass
- You never have to pay to move here, even if other players are already there
- If you are in this space and have no way to take another action, you are allowed to stay in this space
- If you move to an adjacent space (orthogonally or diagonally), the movement is free of charge
- If you move to a non-adjacent space, the movement costs 1 bago to the common supply
- You must also pay 1 bago to each player who was already in the space that you moved to
- You must pay 1 bago to the common supply if the year/taxation marker was present in the space you moved to
Once all players have taken their first action, if any player chose the Pass/Press Release action, the turn order needs to be adjusted If any player order marker is in the bottom row of the player order area:
- Move it to the same slot in the top row
- Shift the other markers left or right as necessary to make room for it
Then move the Year/Taxation marker to the 2 space in the current year to start the second half of this phase, following the same rules as above
After everyone has completed their second action, then the Year/Taxation marker is moved to the B space Remember to adjust the turn orders if anyone took the Pass/Press Release action
Magnate Action Tiles
During your turn, you may turn over a magnate action tile to gain the printed benefit:
- You can do this before moving your action marker or after performing your action, but not during an action
- You cannot use these tiles during the Maintenance, Production or Fair Phases
- These tiles will flip back over after the 1st and 2nd fairs
Multiplier Tiles
To buy a multiplier tile:
- You must have a barrel available
- Place the tile face-up next to your player board and place a barrel from your supply on it:
- Once you do this, the only way to move the barrel is if a wine expert allows you to do so
- You score no points at the end of the game for a multiplier tile with no barrel on it
- You are not allowed to have more than one multiplier tile of the same type
Wine Expert Tiles
During your turn, you are allowed to use one face-up wine expert tile:
- You can have as many as you want, you just can only use one per turn
- When you use it, flip it face-down
- These tiles will flip back over after the 1st and 2nd fairs
- Place the year/taxation marker on the "B" space of the current year Source: (BGG Link)https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1663733/article/24088110#24088110

- Place the year/taxation marker on the production space of the current year
- Age wine:
- Move each tile one slot to the right

- Optionally, redistribute enologists and farmers to different estates:
- Remember that each winery can host 1 enologist, each vineyard can host 1 farmer
- Produce wine:
- For each estate that has a vineyard:
- Calculate the wine quality the estate produces:
- +2 per vineyard
- +1 per farmer
- +1 per winery
- +2 per enologist
- +3 if you are producing Porto
- +/- weather value
- If the wine quality is greater than 0:
- Take a wine tile of the matching wine quality
- Put it in the leftmost slot of the warehouse/cellar with the appropriate coloured side face-up

- For each estate that has a vineyard:

- Determine the ranking according to the number of fair points each player has accumulated:
- 4P: Receive one free Wine Expert if you are in last place on Fair Track at end of Fair

- If 4th position is in the tie, all tied players receive a wine expert
- 2P: Use the 1st and 3rd scoring positions
- Adjust the order of play:
- The new player order matches the left-to-right order of the discs in the fair booths
- This will be the player order for the first action of the next year
- Move your disc from the fair booth onto the fair logo

- You do not flip over wine experts after the 3rd fair
