Description
Press-your-luck card game where you hit, stay, and try to reveal 7 unique number cards without busting.
- Have something ready to track player scores
- Shuffle the deck thoroughly
- Choose one player to be the Dealer for the round
If you are playing with more than 18 players, the rules recommend using a second deck.
Flip 7 is a press-your-luck game played over a series of rounds. During a round, you are trying to collect valuable cards without drawing a duplicate Number card.
At the start of the round, the Dealer deals 1 card face up to each player, including themself. If an Action card is dealt, pause immediately and resolve it before continuing the deal.
After the opening deal, the Dealer offers each active player a choice in turn order:
- Hit: take another card
- Stay: leave the round and bank your points
On your turn, choose whether to Hit or Stay.
- If you Hit, the Dealer deals you 1 card face up
- If it is a Number card with a number you do not already have, add it to your line
- If it is a duplicate Number card, you bust unless you can use a Second Chance card
- If it is a Modifier card, keep it with your cards
- If it is an Action card, resolve it immediately
- If you Stay, turn your cards face down and leave the round
- You bank the points from your current cards
- You are no longer an active player this round
You may only Stay if you have at least 1 card in front of you.
Number cards are the main way you score points, but they are also how you bust.
- Number cards are worth their printed value
- The 0 card is worth no points, but still counts as a unique Number card for the Flip 7 bonus
- The more valuable a Number card is, the more copies of that card are in the deck
- If you ever receive a Number card with a number already in your line, you bust unless you use a Second Chance card
Only Number cards count toward the 7 unique Number cards needed for the Flip 7 bonus.
Action cards may be played on any active player, including yourself. If you are the only active player, you must play the Action card on yourself.
Freeze
The chosen player banks all points they have collected and leaves the round.
Flip Three
The chosen player must take the next 3 cards, one at a time.
- Stop early if the player busts
- Stop early if the player reaches 7 unique Number cards
- Number cards, Modifier cards, and Second Chance cards count toward the 3 cards
- If another Flip Three or Freeze card is revealed, set it aside and resolve it after the 3-card sequence is finished
Second Chance
The chosen player keeps this card until it is used or the round ends.
- If that player receives a duplicate Number card, discard the Second Chance card and the duplicate Number card instead of busting
- A player may only have 1 Second Chance card at a time
- If a player with Second Chance receives another one, they choose another active player to receive it
- If no other active player can receive it, discard it
- Discard all unused Second Chance cards at the end of the round
Modifier cards increase your score if you survive the round, but they do not protect you from busting.
- Modifier cards do not count as Number cards
- Modifier cards do not count toward the Flip 7 bonus
- If you have only Modifier cards and no Number cards, you can still score those Modifier points if you Stay or are Frozen
- +2 / +4 / +6 / +8 / +10 cards add that many points to your score
- x2 doubles the total value of your Number cards
- Apply the x2 before adding bonus-point Modifier cards
A round ends as soon as one of these conditions is met:
- There are no active players because everyone has either busted or stayed
- A player has reached 7 unique Number cards
Players who have stayed or been frozen score their banked points. Players who busted score 0 for the round.
You bust when you receive a Number card matching a number already in your line.
- If you have a Second Chance card, discard the Second Chance and the duplicate Number card instead
- If you do not have a Second Chance card, you are out of the round and score 0
- Flip your cards face down to show that you are no longer active
If you ever have 7 unique Number cards face up in front of you, the round ends immediately.
- You score the value of your cards as normal
- You also score a 15 point Flip 7 bonus
- Modifier cards do not count toward the 7 cards
- The 0 card does count as one of the 7 unique Number cards
When you score for the round:
- Add the values of your Number cards
- Apply any x2 Modifier card
- Add any bonus-point Modifier cards
- Add 15 points if you triggered the Flip 7 bonus
Players who busted score 0, even if they had Modifier cards.
After the round is scored:
- Set all cards from the round aside
- Do not shuffle them back into the deck yet
- Pass the remaining deck to the left
- The new Dealer begins the next round
- If the deck runs out, shuffle the discarded cards to form a new deck
- If this happens mid-round, leave all cards in front of players where they are, including cards in front of players who have busted
The game ends at the end of a round when at least one player has reached 200 points.
The player with the most points wins.
