Description
Build train routes across Europe in this sequel to the hit family board game.
- Each player receives:
- A set of train cars, train stations and scoring marker
- Shuffle the train cards and deal 4 to each player
- Place train cards by board and turn 5 train cards face up to fork display
- Separate 6 long train route cads from the destination tickets
- Shuffle long routes and deal 1 to each player face-down
- Shuffle regular destination ticket cards and deal 3 to each player
- Each player then chooses which destination tickets to keep:
- Any cards you don't want to keep are discarded face down
- Choose a starting player:
- Official method: Player who has visited most European countries goes first
Gameplay takes place over a series of rounds where, on their turn, players perform one of the following actions:
- Draw Train Cards
- Claim a Route
- Draw Destination Tickets
- Build a Train Station
This action allows you to draw up to 2 train cards
- For each card you draw, either draw the card from the display directly or from the top of the deck
- Drawing a face-up locomotive counts as drawing two cards
- Drawing locomotives from the top of the deck still counts as a single card for this action
- If 3 of the cards in the display are locomotives, all cards are discarded and 5 new ones are drawn
- Choose a route to claim:
- Only one route can be claimed per turn
- You cannot claim part of a route
- One player cannot claim both routes of a double route (two parallel tracks connecting two cities)
- 2-3P: Only one route of a double route can be used
- Play a set of cards matching the colour and quantity of the spaces on the chosen route:
- Locomotive cards act as wildcards
- Grey routes can be claimed with cards of any colour, but all cards used for that route must be of the same colour
- For ferry routes:
- All train cards spent must be locomotives
- For tunnel routes:
- Play the number of cards required by the route as usual
- Reveal the top 3 train cards of the deck:
- If not enough cards in deck to deal 3, only the ones left are used in this check
- For each card revealed that matches the colour of the route, you must provide another card of that same colour (or a locomotive):
- For this check, a locomotive counts as a match
- If you provided all locomotives when building the tunnel, you only have to pay extra cards if locomotives are revealed
- If you cannot or do not want to provide the extra card(s):
- The player takes back their cards
- The cards revealed are discarded
- Place one of your train markers on each of the spaces on the chosen route
- Discard cards played to claim route
- Move scoring marker based on the length of the claimed route:
- 1 train: 1 point
- 2 trains: 2 points
- 3 trains: 4 points
- 4 trains: 7 points
- 6 trains: 15 points
- 8 trains: 21 points
- Draw 3 destination tickets:
- If less than 3 left, then just draw the ones that are left
- Discard as many as you like but you must keep one of them
- Pay the cost:
- 1st station: 1 train card of any colour
- 2nd station: 2 train cards of the same colour
- 3nd station: 3 train cards of the same colour
- Place a station marker on a city without a station on it
- Two players may never build a station in the same city
- You can only build three stations each game
- A station only grants you access to one and only one that you do not own:
- When scoring tickets at the end of the game, you nominate one route owned by someone else that your station will graint acces to. It cannot be used to grant access to different routes belonging to other players for different tickets
- You do not have to decide which route you will make use of until the end of the game
The end of the game is triggered when one player has 2 or less trains in their supply at the end of their turn. Each player, including the player who triggered the game end, then can perform one last turn
The game then ends and final scoring commences
Each player scores the following categories:
- Destination tickets:
- Score points for each completed ticket
- Lose points for each uncompleted ticket
- Score 4 points for each unplayed station you have
- Determine who gets the European Express bonus (10 points):
- Score 10 points and receive the European Express card if you have the longest continuous path among all players:
- Stations, and routes of opponents that they allow access to, don't count as part of the path
- Each train cannot be used twice in this longest path
- Ties are friendly, with all tied players scoring the bonus
- Score 10 points and receive the European Express card if you have the longest continuous path among all players:
The player with the most points wins
Tiebreakers are:
- Player with most completed destination tickets
- Player that used fewest stations
- Player with the European Express card
Otherwise, the victory is shared
