- Tiles are placed face-down
- Place 1 map token on each tile
- Place North location tiles in random order:
- Tiles are placed face-down
- Place 1 map token on each tile

- Shuffle meteorite, item and quest cards together into single deck

- Place remaining deck face-down near play area
- Prepare corruption tokens:
- Place 20-value corruption token to the side
- Place all other corruption tokens into bag and mix them
- Decide who will be first player
- Each player chooses a player colour and then receives the following:

- Place these face-up to left of mech mat
- 4 glory tokens in player colour
- 1 action token:
- Place on Refresh space on mech mat
- 1 power token:
- Place on 0 space of power track
- 1 guile token
- Place on 0 space of guile track
- 2 player aids, 1 of each type
Expeditions is played over a number of rounds, where each player on their turn will do one of the following two things:
- Take Actions
- Refresh
The game end is triggered when a player is able to place their 4th glory star token with the Boast ability
Taking Actions
When taking actions, you move your action token from the space it is on to another space on your mech mat.
If your marker is on Move, Play or Gather, you must move the token from where it is to one of the other two spaces. You can then take the two actions that are left exposed after this move has been completed.
If your marker is on the Refresh space, you move your marker to the blank space on the mech mat and perform all three actions.
If your marker starts the turn on the blank space, you must move it to either the Move, Play or Gather space on the mech mat and then perform the two exposed actions.
- You must perform all exposed actions that you are able to perform
- You can only move your token to the Refresh space by taking a Refresh turn
- You can only move your token to the blank space on the turn following a Refresh turn:
- You cannot perform two Refresh turns in a row
Glory Categories
From left to right:
- Solve 4 quests
- Meld 4 meteorites
- Upgrade 4 items
- Vanquish the corruption from location 20
- Have at least 7 corruption tokens:
- Not including the 20-value corruption token
- Have at least 8 cards in your control:
- Not including solved, melded or upgraded cards
- Have either 7 workers or at least 5 map tokens:
- You can only place at most 1 glory token on this category, even if you achieve both goals
Taking the move action requires you to move your mech to another unoccupied location within your movement range:
- Your movement range is 1-3 locations
- You must end your turn on a different location to where you started
- You are not allowed to move through or end up on any of the face-up cards that were placed among the locations
- If your mech moves to a face-down location, its movement ends immediately
- You may move through face-up locations that are occupied by other mechs during your turn, but you must end your turn on a location not currently occupied by another mech
- Your mech begins the game on the basecamp board:
- From the basecamp board, you first step must be to one of the 3 adjacent locations
- You cannot ever move back to the basecamp board once you have moved off of it
Once you have ended your movement, if the location was face-down then do the following:
- Gain the map token from the location
- Flip the location face-up
- Draw corruption tokens from the corruption bag one-by-one, stacking then on the square at the bottom of the tile until the sum of values on the tiles is greater than equal to the number shown in that square:
- Exception: When location 20 is revealed, place the 20-value corruption tile on this space
- If the corruption tile bag runs out of tokens, leave the location as it is and stop drawing tokens
- Choose 1 card in your hand:
- Cards "in your hand" are kept to the left of your mech mat
- Play it to your active row:
- Your active row is to the right of your mech mat
- You must play the card immediately to the right of the rightmost card in the active row
- Cards in the active row always stay in the order that they were placed in the active row
In any order, then you may do the following things in any order (and each step is optional):
- Gain the card's core value
- Place a worker on the card to activate its ability
To gain the card's core value:
- Gain either the guile or power as shown in the card's top left corner
- Some cards have conditional benefits based on your current guile or number of melded meteorites in your possession. If you meet those requirements, also gain these benefits
- You may never have more than 10 power or 10 guile:
- Any extra you receive above these values is lost
To gain the benefits of the card's ability:
- Place an available worker of the matching colour on the card:
- If a benefit is shown above the worker icon on the card, you gain the benefit immediately after placing a worker on the card
- Gain the benefit as stated at the bottom of the card
- Unless the card says otherwise, any references to tokens, cards, workers or mechs are only to components you currently possess
- Each card can only ever have one worker on it
- Some cards have an ongoing benefit that refer to anything you do, including when you are gaining the benefit shown above the card's worker icon. This ongoing benefit is available for as long as the card is in your active row
- If a card has multiple abilities, you may trigger them in any order you like but if an ability has a cost, you must pay the cost before receiving the benefit
Some keywords you may see on abilities when they are activated:
Previous
- Refers to the card in the active row immediately to that card's left
Card colour
- It refers to the colour of the worker required by its ability
Gain or Discard
- Gained or discarded cards are played to the rightmost position of the active row, but the player does not receive any of its benefits:
- Core value is not received and the player is not allowed to place a worker on the card to activate its ability at this time
Or
- Obviously, this gives the player the option of doing one of two things. The player cannot do both
Trash
- Trashing a card removes it from the game entirely
Activating
- When activating another card, you may gain the effect of its ability without placing a worker on it. If the ability is an ongoing benefit, it only lasts until the end of this turn
Solve
- When using a solve ability:
- Your mech must be on a tile matching a quest card that you control
- Pay the solve cost:
- This cost is shown on the right side of the quest card
- Gain the benefit below the cost
- Tuck the quest card above your mech mat, or above previously solved quests, so that the top of the card remains visible
- You may only solve a maximum of 4 quests in a game
- If a worker was on a solved quest, return it to your mech mat
Vanquish
- When using a Vanquish ability:
- As many times as you wish and can afford:
- Pay the cost on the topmost corruption token at your mech's current location
- Place this corruption token on your mech mat
- After the last corruption token is removed from a location, a new benefit is revealed that can be received with a Gather action
- The values and colours on corruption tokens, and the benefits underneath these tokens, are public information
- If an ability destroys corruption on a location that does not result in a player receiving that corruption, return the tokens to the corruption token bag
- As many times as you wish and can afford:
When you take a Gather action, you receive benefits that are exposed at your mech's current location. These benefits are shown at the bottom of the location's tile. If there is a / between the benefits, that requires the player to choose only the benefits on one side of the /
Face-up Cards
- Any benefit that refers to face-up cards refers to the cards placed among the locations
- Some benefits refer to face-up cards that are adjacent to your mech's current location
- If a face-up card is received by a player, replace it with the top card from the card deck
Gaining Cards
- Gained cards are added to the rightmost position of the active card row
- Some benefits allow you to gain the topmost card of the deck
- Other benefits allow you to take the topmost two cards from the deck and keep one of them:
- The other card is placed face-up in a sweep pile next to the card deck
- If the card deck is ever empty, shuffle this sweep pile to form a new card deck
Sweep
- Choose any number of the face-up cards among the locations and place them into the sweep pile next to the card deck
Gaining Workers
- Workers are limited to 10 per colour
- You only gain a worker if at least one worker of that colour is still in the supply
- Workers that are gained are placed on your mech mat:
- Workers on your mech mat are considered "available"
Gaining a Benefit from an Adjacent Location
- You gain the benefits from 1 icon on the location, not one side of a / if that symbol is on the location
Activating an Adjacent Card's Ability
- The adjacent cards here refer to the face-up cards among the locations
- No worker needs to be placed on the card to activate the ability
- Any ongoing benefit activated this way lasts until the end of the turn
Playing a Card from Hand
- Play a card from your hand as usual
Refresh Cards and Workers
- Return all workers placed on active cards to your mech mat
- Return all active cards to your hand
- Do not move your action token when taking this benefit
Rescue
- Rescue a card from your active row to your hand
- If the card has a worker on it, return the worker to your mech mat
Location 14's Map Token
- Gain 1 map token from the general supply, if any are still available
Upgrade
- Tuck an item card from your hand or active row under the right edge of your mech mat, or under a previous upgrade, so that only the card's ability is showing
- The ongoing part of this ability is now active for the rest of the game
- Any instant benefits are ignored when the card is upgraded
- You may only upgrade a maximum of 4 items per game
- If the item card had a worker on it, return it to your mech mat
Meld
- Turn a meteorite card from your hand or active row sideways under the bottom edge of your mech mat, or under the previous melded meteorite, so only the meld bonus is shown
- Immediately gain the meld bonuses of all melded meteorites on your mech, including the card just melded
- You may only meld a maximum of 4 meteorites per game
- If the meteorite card had a worker on it, return it to your mech mat
Boast
- Whenever you boast, choose exactly one glory category for which:
- You have reached or exceeded the goal value
- You do not currently have a glory token on the basecamp board:
- An opponent's glory token being on the category already does not block you from placing a glory token there
- Place one of your glory tokens on the selected category
When you take a Refresh turn or gain the benefit of a Refresh turn:
- Return all workers to your mech mat
- Return all cards to your active hand:
- Cards in your active hand are placed to the left of your player board, not actually into your hands as they must be visible to all players at all times
Only when you are actually taking a Refresh turn:
- Shift your action token from Move, Play or Gather to cover the Refresh space on your mech mat:
- If your action token was on the blank space on your player board, you cannot take a Refresh turn
On your next turn, you must move your marker to the blank space on your mech mat and take all three of the Move, Play and Gather actions.
On the turn after that, you must move your market to cover either Move, Play or Gather and take the two exposed actions as usual.
The game end is triggered when a player places their 4th glory star on the basecamp board. After the turn in which the game end was triggered, all players then take one final turn, ending with the player that triggered the game end.
After all players have completed their final turns, immediately proceed to final scoring.
In addition to money received during the game, players earn money for the following categories:
- Glory tokens placed on basecamp board
- Upgraded Items:
- Receive amount shown on bottom right corner of each item card
- Corruption Tokens:
- Each token is worth $2 each
- Value on token (even the 20-value one) is irrelevant for scoring
The player with the most money wins.
In the event of a tie:
- All tied players add up their totals for each category of the glory track, even if they did not place a glory token for that category
- For each category, the tied players compare their totals for each category. The player who has the highest total in the most categories out of the tied players is the winner
- If there is still a tie, the players share the victory
Tatanka
You may Solve, Upgrade, and Meld up to 5 times each:
- By default, you may only do each of these things 4 times
Marsh Strider
Your movement range is 1–4 locations:
- The default movement range is 1–3 locations
Odin's Wrath
You may trash a map at any time on your turn to gain 1 power, 1 guile, or $1:
- This refers to map tokens in your supply
- Maps don’t otherwise serve a purpose as currency
Lumberjack
Whenever you Vanquish, reduce the cost of the first corruption of each color by 1:
- For the 20-value dual-color corruption on location 20, Lumberjack’s ability decreases it to 18
Highlander
You may gain cards directly to your hand:
- By default, gained cards are placed in the active row
